Chesney serves up country Buffett

It’s no wonder that country megastar Kenny Chesney opened his annual Gillette Stadium show last night with “Live These Songs Again” - that’s exactly what his audience has been doing the past four summers.

Chesney’s a rare showman in commercial country. His nonstop, feel-good concerts are served with Jimmy Buffett-like party spirit. And even though he’s recently turned 40, nothing’s changed for his 2008 Corona-sponsored Poets & Pirates Tour.

But while consistency is a fine trait, Chesney would do well to change things up some; merely adding a few tunes from his new album each year isn’t enough.

And yet, last night’s capacity crowd seemed not to care. From such boozy faves as “Beer in Mexico” and “Keg in the Closet,” to the freewheeling sentiments of “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem,” Chesney and his ample band kept the well-marinated throng in a state of overstimulated frenzy. The generous 21-song set, occasionally buoyed by a four-piece brass section, also traversed more contemplative territory with the new “Don’t Blink” and “Back Where I Come From” (featuring, as usual, video footage of Beantown landmarks).

But for those of us who can take or leave Chesney, the entertainment value of his show is largely measured by the quality of the support acts. LeAnn Rimes and Keith Urban provided rock-solid support this year.

Countryfest is the highlight of my summer for the last 5 yrs. Keith urban was a great addition to the lineup

Night Mare at Gillette Stadium! Started with the inadequate trained staffing( no CB radios when there was trouble.) Had premium seats and had to go to to 3 different booths & waited inline to only find out had to go All the way to the opposite side of stadium/stage to get in?? What was that? Then got to watch Gary Allen ( who I really wanted to see & injoy) make a complete idiot out of himself drinking JD half tanked on stage like he didn't want to be there. or maybe he wasn't there? To bad very talented artist drowning in a bottle. Gary you only get 1 life.. Don't Blink!
I have to Say Keith Urban you are definatley on your way.. Super Job! and LeAnn spectacular life on the stage! You loved what you were doing! it showed and your cute drummer has alot of feelings that had shown thru his finesse while he played.. Great Job! Where did you get that Lead Guitarist? WOW!Nice Find!
Sand BAR SEATS? No Shoes, No shirts, No SAND ??? No Security? No radios? No Help Big Problem

This is my third time seeing Kenny Chesney and it has gotten better every year. No only complaint I would have is that it was very confusing getting into the stadium. We had field seats and were told after we had already walked up ramp that we needed to get wrist bands to get into the field. We had to walk all the way back down. They could have told us that when they scanned our tickets.
Kenny Chesney was awesome. Keith Urban was awesome. Great show!!!
thought Keith Urban was the star of the night. Excellent guitar player and performer!!
Sandbar left - no seats!!!!! 8 1/2 hours standing, no water, no food, just beer hawkers. Last year I missed the concert because I was giving birth to my daughter but this year was definately a labor of love. You would think that for the money we pit people paid we would have gotten a seat for a few hours at least. Only for Kenny and Keith would I put myself through that pain. Kenny is awesome but now I am not sure if being in front is worth it. I'm still in pain from all that standing!
Could Have been a really good show.. but to many hassels and problems with rude mean people & No Real Security.. Planning was terrible as far as the stadium goes. Keith Urban was the Best.. He really wanted to be there.. All in all I willnot go to another concert at Gillette Stadium & I had the Sandbar tickets which cost a fortune.. Sand? No they were Cattle Corrals!
