| Review: Dave Matthews Band jams out at Qwest BY KEVIN COFFEY WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER The Dave Matthews Band played more like a jam band than a rock band on Tuesday night at the Qwest Center Omaha. Jam sessions and solos in between verses lengthened nearly every song. A few examples were 15-minute versions of the songs "Dreaming Tree" and "#41" and a 9-minute rendition of "Ants Marching," each several minutes longer than their original album versions. And just over 13,000 fans ate it up. Concertgoers danced and sang, and the end of each song was followed by a barrage of deafening screams. Several times, Matthews talked and joked with the crowd, but it was nearly impossible to make out what he said because of all of the noise. The crowd joined Matthews for a sing-along on the song "Out of My Hands," which Matthews performed solo on a piano. Fans also seemed to know all the lyrics when the band performed the popular "Crash Into Me." Also eliciting cheers were the various solos during the nearly three-hour set. Violinist Boyd Tinsley's solos got the most cheers, especially the several minutes he performed during "Dancing Nancies." Fill-in saxophonist Jeff Coffin also got a big reaction from the crowd when he danced and played across the stage during "#41." Coffin is filling in on tour for regular saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who was recently hospitalized for injuries suffered in an ATV accident.. |
