CONCERT REVIEW Bublé wakes up Charlotte crowd Courtney Devores Special to The Observer Singer Michael Buble performs on the NBC "Today" television show in New York, Tuesday May 1, 2007. His new CD "Call Me Irresponsible" is being released today, Tuesday. (AP Photo/Richard Drew) Anyone expecting to snooze through standard-crooning vocalist Michael Bublé's concert Tuesday at Bobcats Arena was pleasantly proven wrong. Bublé is known for singing snappy big band swing, decades old pop standards, and adult contemporary ballads, but he made his show fun for non-fans who might've been dragged there by a date or spouse. Opening act Naturally 7 helped convert the skeptics. The seven member vocal group presented what they called "vocal play" - a hip-hop-friendly mix of Bobby McFerrin, Boyz II Men, and a barbershop septet that not only sang but mimicked instruments. The a cappella group, all dressed in stark white, put its own spin on Simon & Garfunkel, Phil Collins, and Mr. Mister. One member literally sang bass while another "played" drums and yet another wailed on "guitar" or scratched turntables - all with their mouths. Bublé jokingly made an attempt at "vocal play" popping his cheek during his set. Backed by a 13-piece band, which included an eight-piece horn section, Bublé took the stage to a sea of screams singing Leonard Cohen's "I'm Your Man" from his latest album, "Call Me Irresponsible." A charismatic performer, smooth vocalist and bandleader, and an all-around funny, likeable guy, Bublé acknowledged the female-to-male ratio early on, asking his staff to serve beer to two men near the front of the stage..

Michael Buble is best seen in a smaller theatre with fans who appreciate his singing style. I found the Bobcats Arena accoustics to be less than ideal and the inconsiderate fans who talked incessantly on cell phones throughout the performance were annoying and rude. Buble's talent was wasted on them.
I saw Michael Buble in charlottesville, Virginia and I thought he was great, he was just what I expected. It was worth every penny I paid for!!!
He was boring!! He sucked!!
