Michael Bublé may just be the best Canadian import since ice hockey. Certainly that was the near-unanimous consensus Wednesday evening at Scottrade Center, where the Vancouver-born vocalist performed for a sold-out crowd of 10,000 in the venue's "concert club" format, with the stage set at center ice.

Backed by a talented band that included a dynamic eight-piece horn section, Bublé, stylishly dressed in suit and tie, added a much more intimate feel to the space during the course of a highly entertaining set that included 17 tunes — and plenty of between-songs antics.

Bublé has built his career on a musical approach featuring slick, stylish takes on standards from the great American songbook, blended with a retro Las Vegas-Sinatra Rat Pack risqué attitude — and plenty of youthful exuberance. Maybe a little too risqué in terms of communicating between songs a "bad boy" attitude to an all-ages audience.

Bublé has a powerhouse vocal delivery that can handle anything from a high-energy take on "I've Got the World on a String" to a heartfelt rendition of "Always on My Mind" — both from his latest recording "Call Me Irresponsible." He filled his set with several more tunes from the CD, most notably smoldering reworkings of Leonard Cohen's "I'm Your Man" and the 1970s R&B hit, "Me and Mrs. Jones.".
