Kenny Chesney review

Partway through his set at the overflowing Mohegan Sun Grandstand on Friday night, Kenny Chesney stopped the music to explain he doesn't usually like to work new songs into his concerts.

That didn't stop him from showcasing a couple of good ones from his album due Sept. 11: "Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates."

"Never Wanted Nothin' More" and "Don't Blink" carried similar themes. Chesney's plenty happy these days in the first, wants to appreciate that joy now because life goes by in quarter-century chunks in the second.

The crowd of 17,303 sure was totally in the moment.

Everywhere you looked, there were people. People who love country music. Enough people to break the grandstand attendance mark that Chesney set the last time through, in 2004.

And they were singing and dancing along to Chesney and his shipshape band, from the first strains of the opening cut "Beer in Mexico" to the last strains of the band's ushering out the night with an instrumental of REO Speedwagon's classic "Roll with the Changes."

The set for this Flip Flop Summer Tour was spectacle enough to satisfy what Chesney fans have come to expect..

Second time seeing him on this tour, and again worth every dollar I paid! Only wish I could see him one more time before this tour ends. Can't wait 'til 2008!
