| Sold-out Kenny Chesney concert had plenty going for it By FRANK ROBERTS, The Virginian-Pilot VIRGINIA BEACH There were about 20,000 people at the Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheater Friday shouting for their musical hero, Kenny Chesney. He may not be a hero to Renee Zellweger, but the country fans love him. Boldly, he offers a lot of slow-paced songs and they work, and Chesney’s work is paying off. This tour is the number two moneymaker, right behind Police, right in front of the happily married McGraws, according to Billboard magazine. Some of the special effects looked like they were directed by Steven Spielberg. The sold -out concert had plenty going for it, most of all the star who, praise be, gives his fine band plenty of time to strut their stuff. Like most concerts these days, it was LOUD, and the audience raised the decibels as they showed their appreciation. They joined KC on such pieces as “Anything But Mine,” one of his umpteen number-one songs.. |
