Who says you can't teach an old Show Dog new tricks? Uh, me. Big Dog Daddy himself, Toby Keith, president, cook, founder, chief bottle washer, CEO, COO and BMOC of Show Dog Records returned to Northeast Ohio Thursday night to wow a packed Blossom crowd. But with a few notable exceptions from his new CD, the menu looked awfully familiar.

The problem is that it seemed like Keith almost Tivo'd the 2006 show. Of course, there were splices - Keith typically opens his shows with a video, and it typically leaves you rolling in the aisles. This one featured comedian Larry the Cable Guy as Possum Boy to Keith's Big Dog Daddy superhero. And he included a nicely done version of his latest hit, "High Maintenance Woman.''

But I had to ask myself, after he sang, "Get Drunk and Be Somebody,'' has he been taking his own advice?

Keith is a consummate performer who works a crowd as well as anyone in the business. He boasts a distinctive look, voice and style. Moreover, he knows himself as well as any artist, and better than most. That's how he has managed to build a superstar career in the face of constant snubs by the Nashville establishment. He doesn't tolerate imperfection in himself or others.

Which is what made Thursday so implausible. Keith missed notes, misremembered lyrics and almost seemed to fumble his way through two hours and 24 songs. His Easy Money Band, tight as ever, sometimes seemed lost as to which way he was going. A duet with his longtime backup singer, Mica Roberts, whom he's just signed to Show Dog, was like two kids playing leap frog in Candyland, looking for harmonies that frankly weren't there..

I've been to many of his concerts. I thought he
was great. It was very very hot in the pavillon
He did look abit tired, but give him a break.
He's human. He looked great and sounded great
and I was in the front row center!!

I have seen a lot of concert everybody Who to Stone, Toby one of the best. You tell he really enjoys touring and playing to the crowd. If he was like of acts he would play Q for more money
(not to mention air conditioning) Definitely worth parking hassles to see him. Even with the heat and humidty on hell of show
Get Toby Keith stuff here
Wow! Show me those muscles again! The show was amazing. I appreciate the fact he makes a strong stand on being patriotic and singing every song with him was fun. Too hot? Who noticed!!
I was at this concert and I will say that it was one of the best I have saw of Toby's by far.
Even in the sweltering heat Toby lit the place up.You couldn't tell in the least that it got to him. I was front row and the Man was getting his groove on this night.
I love the fact that Toby is so patriotic and show so much RESPECT for the troops.
He played with the crowd more this year than I have ever saw him before.
He knows what his Warriors want and gives it to them.
Toby was noted for saying he gives them what they need not what they want , but I think he does both.
Thanks Big Dog for being the BEST in the business and enjoying what you do to.
