| Music Review: Buble croons, charms his way to concert success Monday, August 13, 2007 By Rosa Colucci, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Loose was the operative word for Michael Buble as the 31-year-old crooner seemed to have dropped in on a party with 6,000 or so of his closest friends Friday night at the Petersen Events Center. He found the time to wander into the audience and greet hundreds of adoring fans; rib the city for Sidney Crosby being here and not in his native Canada, and even bring out birthday cakes and have the audience sing their well wishes for a band member and his best friend. He even said, "I'm having too much fun up here, I feel like I'm home." The set opened with "I'm Your Man," "Meglio Stasera," "Me and Mrs. Jones" and "Call Me Irresponsible." Buble was not at his vocal best on these numbers as he backed off high notes and jived with the band. He introduced his wildly talented band and let them do their stuff for almost ten minutes to the delight of the audience. After that, Buble settled into a little more serious singing and delivered a beautiful version of "Always on My Mind." The show picked up momentum from that point on. He sang beautifully on "Home," (dedicated to a couple who got engaged earlier in the day) and threw on a full Elvis persona for "That's All Right Mama." The energy really picked up on a swing-styled "How Sweet it Is" followed by a bring-the- house-down version of "That's Life." The song featured a small local gospel choir whose smokin' sound was off the charts. . |
