Toby Keith keeps fans happy with upbeat hits

Toby Keith's music is country at its lowest common denominator.

Even the hardest of the hard-core Keith fans screaming their hearts out at Red Rocks on Thursday night will have a hard time denying that claim, because not only does the country star write songs around catchphrases, as opposed to actual ideas, but Keith proudly wags his ridiculous Ford sponsorship around as if it's an appendage - a very mighty appendage.

No masculinity issues here for the country superstar. He name- drops Ford in multiple songs. The trucks star in his pre-show film. And his overblown drum riser is a giant, chrome truck grill sporting an equally tasteless Ford logo.

As if that weren't bad enough, every other song title is some middle school put-down or barroom clichĂ© - reading like an overpriced T-shirt Keith bought in CancĂșn after blacking out on tequila. "Get My Drink On." "Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya." "Get Drunk and Be Somebody." "Note to Self." "Who's Your Daddy?"

And let's not forget "Stays in Mexico," which is the home to the thoroughly original thought "What happens down in Mexico stays in Mexico."

But what Keith's Red Rocks concert lacked in imagination, it made up for in pyrotechnics and rapid-fire upbeat hits.

Backed by a 10-piece band and playing to pretty spectacular sound, the ever-stoic Keith was every bit the crowd-pleaser.
