| Concert review: Jackson, Brooks & Dunn get amphitheater kickin' By FRANK ROBERTS, The Virginian-Pilot VIRGINIA BEACH – It was a night of firsts: the first concert for the 2007 season at the Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheater and the first stop for the hot double feature of Alan Jackson and Brooks & Dunn. It was the rare country superstar concert where the fans, for the most part, remained seated. It's a safe bet that the rest of the amphitheater's country presentations this year will see the chairs used only as props. Even so, the fans Thursday night were enthusiastic. The idea of double-bill featuring the tall trio was a good one. Their concert was thoroughly enjoyable. They mixed the new stuff with the oldies, doing it without the fuss and feathers often offered these days, relying on their music and on videos. Both acts spotlighted faith and flag – religiosity and Americana, with B&D bringing a trio of well-decorated Marines to emphasize their hit, "Only in America," accompanied by thousands of red, white and blue streamers trailing down. And, they had a background of crosses to emphasize their hit "Believe." Jackson's set included shots of Hampton Roads, with the greatest cheers for Virginia Tech mementoes and everything military. There were churches, a Hooters girl and other familiar sights. His semi-inspirational songs were "Drive (For Daddy Gene)," dedicated to his dad, who died in 2000, and "Remember When." The familiar hits were there – Jackson's "Chattahoochie," "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere," "I Don't Even Know Your Name." B&D's familiar hits included, "Rock My World (Little Country Girl)," "Boot Scootin' Boogie" and "My Maria." New hits included Jackson's "Like Red on a Rose" and "A Woman's Love." B&D sang "Hillbilly Deluxe" and "Red Dirt Road." . |

| Worst concert I've ever attended. Acoustics/Sound were terrible. Could not understand the music or a word they spoke. My wife, friends and I have attended several Brooks & Dunn concerts that were great but this one was a total nightmare. We left about halfway through the concert (so did a lot of other people), because of the sound. Then next time I want to waste $283.75 I'll play the lottery. At least I have a chance of winning and to see the numbers clearly. Thanks for making May 10th a miserable outing for us and my out of town friends. I would like a response to this message - debating my next Brooks & Dunn concert. John |
