Crazy about Kenny Chesney
Here's why Jacksonville area fans love the oft-touring country singer
By ROGER BULL, The Times-Union
If the weather is warming, it means that Kenny Chesney is coming to Jacksonville. And if Chesney is in town, that means the fans will line up to see him. He sold out Saturday's show so quickly that a Sunday show was added. And those tickets are just about all gone, too.
This year, it's the Flip Flop Summer Tour. Sugarland, who also opened last year's Chesney concert here, and Texas singer/songwriter Pat Green open the show. Later on in the tour, Brooks and Dunn, Joe Walsh and Sara Evans will join them for a few shows, including some football stadiums. And, yes, they're selling out, too.
So, we asked readers to tell us why Chesney has this appeal. Night after night, city after city, year after year. All the responses came from women, for some strange reason. Here's what they said:
If you missed out on tickets for Kenny Chesney's two shows at the arena this weekend, you can still catch him on TV.
Part 1 of Kenny Chesney: The Making of the Flip Flop Summer Tour is on Great American Country at 9 p.m. Saturday. It re-airs at 1 and 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday. The second part airs at 9 p.m. Saturday, April 28.
"When Kenny Chesney comes to Jacksonville, it's like being on a tropical island with your friends. Kenny brings the atmosphere of the island to you. I love how he gets involved with the audience. He makes you feel like he's one of us. When at a Kenny Chesney concert, you feel like you're having a beer in Mexico, then all of a sudden you have lost your shoes, your shirt and your problems. If Kenny was to come three times a year I would be there."
