Just saw the DFW show last nite, I was standing in the pit. The boys sounded awesome! Thought they were really tight but the acoustics had me struggling to hear everything. The words were garbled, the guitar too soft and of course, too much bass, no snare drum whatsoever. As a musician, I was ready to go strangle the sound dude. They obviously don't walk around to hear whats going on. They seemed to play the same set that has been reported by other reviewers, started with Big Empty, then Wicked Garden. Played all the hits. Encored with Tripping Thru a Hole. Thought the show bogged down when they played Sour Girl (about 5th song in). They seemed to do a Bass Solo/improv thing that also noodled its way to the "road to nowhere" including the abrupt ending by Kretz, who was also tired of it. The Deleo brothers were incredible!!! They would let the show bog down and then bounce right back with one of their many powerful tunes, which just kept coming. The best Bass and guitar playing I have witnessed in the last 5 years. Numerous outstanding guitar solo's all night long, just wish they would have been loud enough to rip my freakin' head off. Loved the Bass players stage presence thoughout. His fingers seemed to be 10 inches long, the biggest hands I have ever seen, Seinfeld would call them "manhands", check em out they're freakin meat hooks. The DeLeo Bros. are sooo fucking solid. Kretz was also very solid throughout, including some on the spot tempo changes(Fast to slow) that were just plain awesome. Of course, Weiland had me laughing all night with his strip tease/Mick Jagger impression. He sounded great, pitch was fantastic, and of course, the endurance to sing all those songs. His voice sounded like it was in primo "Boiling nails" condition. Why there was no snare drum coming thru the p.a. all night is a mystery to me, I must have been to close ( I was in the pit about 30 rows in)and there wasn't a snare monitor mix becuz of the boys wearing in ears (I Think)and I wasn't far enough back to get the brunt of the p.a. which was hung very high and probably sounded great in the nosebleed section. Whatever, I got to see them close up and they had some great energy working. They spun my world so hard that both me and wifey-poo were dreaming about the concert all night. I felt like I have seen the last remaining great rock band. Until Zeppelin tours, this show is the shit!!!
