Saw the Oakland concert on the first leg of the tour and was disappointed in the overall concert but very impressed with Stewart Copeland...the July 17th Marysville concert was a totally different experience! The time spent on the road gave them the time to hone the music and work on the arrangements which on the first go round were lacking in intensity and so different than the originals I thought Sting was going to do "smooth jazz" versions of the whole set list...the Marysville concert saw The Police returning to more recognizable arrangements and restoring the rocking edge to their hits...you know a concert is great when your favorite song performed isn't the song you love the most (King of Pain) but was a surprise (Wrapped Around Your Finger)...I feel fortunate to have been able to see The Police both in their prime and again on their swan song tour...now I hope that they stay retired and not play the Brett Favre retired/unretired b/s game.      posted by spt54 on www.concertfan.com
The Police rocked this venue! I was surprised by Sting's grizzled beard, but old or not, the band really kicked it out! Andy Summers was cranked up loud and it's truly amazing how full their sound is as a three-piece band. Sting seemed a little baffled at one point in the show, and I'm not sure if there was a sound problem or what, but he actually stopped playing or miffed some bass lines during a couple of songs. I loved Stewart Copeland's percussion work off the drum kit as well as on. One great addition was the huge and amazingly clear (High-def?) screen behind the stage-you could actually see down Sting's throat from the upper level! I was worried that the band might be phoning it in at this point in the tour, but I'm happy to report just the opposite--they really were great, energetic and vibrant. So glad I finally got to see my favorite band from the 80's! Elvis Costello was also great, in amazingly good voice and a pleasure to see and hear. It's too bad half the crowd didn't bother to show for this gifted artist. He and his band rocked hard and I would love to see them again.

Attended the Marysville/Wheatland concert on July 17. Sting came out sporting a full beard. I did not see them during their first leg but have seen Sting twice before. Contrary to the publicity photos I saw no jumping around by Sting during any song. The other very noticable thing was the lack of participation by Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers on ANY chorus....did they lose their voices or what...never a spoken word by either the entire night either. There was a hi-definition screen directly behind Copeland but was not high enough. the other two screen were the old cheapie kind. Note noteworthy moment was a photo montogue of childrens eyes playing during one song. The sound system was not up to par...sounded screachy like it had been dragged out of moth balls. But the thing I really missed during this performance was the lack of playing Synchonicity I or II--come on guys!
The first 45 minutes of their set contained so may obscure numbers it was shocking. But the band ended strong so all was not lost.
