What a night -- hot weather and HOT Concert. Taylor Hicks brought his wonderous concert to Orange Beach, FL and hit a knock out.

In addition to Taylor's usual high energy performance, singing, dancing and interacting with the audience, the band was scorching in support and in solo performances.

During the encore, Taylor introduced his long time accompanist Jon Cook and then sang Abraham, Martin and John. B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L.!! A partial video is available on youtube.com. http://youtube.com/watch?v=lSN7nrHyk2E This is a partial but oh, so good!
We got back to Atlanta VERY late that night from Orange Beach. The concert was the BEST I have ever seen...I mean of ANYONE! Best Taylor concert EVER!! His voice was just fantastic, the band was RIGHT on...Taylor did look amazing, so full of energy and OH yes, he was so happy to be back in Alabama! The welcome he received was very upbeat and sentimental...The crowd was electric...The Wharf is a great place for a concert ( 10,000 capacity filled to the brim), our seats were great...it was SO hot, even that time of night...but, Taylor still put on a show as if it were COOL...changing his shirt three times! Couldn't believe it when he said...Y'all want more? I was VERY impressed with the amount of people there...there were very few seats remaining in the upper balcony...the floor was FULL, totally. As you know, we were on the 4th row and those seats were perfect...what a night!! I won't forget it, I can tell you that! Everyone is SO friendly in South Alabama, makes me proud I was born in B'ham, AL...OH YEAH!! This is one expierience I'll always remember!! Lots more, but wanted to say how much we enjoyed meeting you and everyone we met that night...it was really magical...

Watch Taylor in concert, you won't regret it. Clearly one of the best to watch live.

Taylor rocked my socks off in Orange Beach...just another concert notch on my belt...He is an incredible performer with more talent in his pinky than most will ever have that are getting all the radio airplay and spins...He is a desert after dinner...He is a down pillow on a sleepful rest...He is a coat on a cold day...Taylor is comfort. Soul comfort. Thanks for the positive and honest review. Go Soul Patrol!

The tension in the air was unbearable.

“TAY-LOR! TAY-LOR! TAY-LOR!”

“Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Taylor Hicks!”

The opening chords ring through the audience’s ears. Everyone leaps to their feet as if they were on fire. Taylor runs around the stage like he was on fire. The band plays as if they were in one big colossal fire.

Point being: It was hot, and I’m not talking about the Alabama humidity.

Give Me Tonight – Cards on the table, hands down, without a doubt, best version of GMT ever. Period. End of discussion.

Heart and Soul – I’m not the biggest proponent of this song, but it was a rather good version tonight.

Just to Feel That Way – My heart was aching. If it had a mouth, it would have yelling “Taylor, be mine!” at the top of it’s heart lungs. Instead I grabbed my heart tight (In fear of it pounding all the way though my chest, causing massive bleeding and a gaping hole in the middle of my chest.) and let the music take control of my body. (This was the only song I sat down for the whole night.)

Medicated Goo – The non-stop party patrol was out and in full force. Grandmas, forced husbands, kids of all ages and their parents alike we're up and moving to this song. Taylor could easily be the next Richard Simmons.

Hell of a Day – Again, never been the biggest proponent of this song, but I must tell you, I had a religious moment during this song. (No, I’m not talking about going to the First Church of Taylor. I’m talking about the real ting.)

At this point in the recap, I must mention I met a lady from the Boogie, Grandma, minutes before the concert started. She told me “Now, don’t let Taylor get in the way of your schoolwork.” Lemme tell you, that is NOT the first time a SP’er told me that. Well, we all know what he tags in HELL OF A DAY – Brick in the Wall.

“We don’t need no education.
We don’t need no thought control.
No dark sarcasm in the classroom.
Teachers! Leave those kids alone!”

I seriously thought he was singing that to me. That moment, right there, hearing Taylor sing a song about rebelling against the school system, feeling his energy, his emotion, his pure happiness, and being in the audience that feeds him all those wonderful effects, made me the happiest I’ve ever been in my entire life. But what is that that makes it so?

It’s Empathy.
It’s Ecstasy.
It’s Love.

I have many reason for loving Taylor, some of them deeper than I care to type at the moment (But if you look back enough, and/or ask me when I’m in a good mood, you’ll find out.) made me so grateful that I had to pray to God, right then and there, and thank him for this pure, rare, and precious happiness that is live music by Taylor Hicks.
Taylor Hicks had a wonderful homecoming and those of us who were there were fortunate to share in it.

I picked up my suitemate from Auburn (from years ago) at the airport around 4:30. She was coming in from Las Vegas from seeing a Justin Timberlake concert and doing some gambling( not sure why anyone would waste time in Justin if you got Taylor coming)

Anyway, we had a great dinner at Felix's Fish Camp on the Causeway, a restaurant Taylor went to get some good seafood before his Mobile concert. We left and headed to The Wharf arriving a liitle before 8. I was about to have a heart attack becaause I wasn't sure if Taylor was going to have an opening act. But he did- Loose Cannons out of Mobile replacing The Mississippi State Allstars(?). They did a good job.

I had grabbed a beer on the way in. It is always a real challenge to determine the best time for a bathroom break to ensure you do not miss any Taylor but I think I got it down to a science after about ten or twelve concerts.

Taylor started playing a little before 9 and was as usual great but had what I would consider a staid audience. He busted butt as always and about two thirds into it everyone was pretty much on their feet(FINALLY!!!)

There was a little girl about 6 on the tenth or so row who stood on her chair and danced the entire concert, She kept on switching up the dance moves and had so much rhytym. She was so cute and I only hate she wasn't close enough for Taylor to see. Also three or so olderscouples right in front of me had made a sign that said THE FLORABAMA WELCOMES TAYLOR They passed it to the front for Taylor to see.

I was worried at one point that Taylor may have become overheated because he started singung Heaven Knows and then left the stage for a few minutes. He came back in a new shirt and seemed better

The high point was definitely an incredibly long version of Abraham, Martin and John with Jon Cook on guitar. Itwas much better than the audio version of this I have heard before that I absolutely love This may bode well for his acoustic tour.

Taylor played for almost two hours in unbelievable heat but he still wasn't through

Part Two Head to The Florabama

After watching Taylor in that heat on Sunday night I felt sure he wasn't coming to the Florabama to perform but wanted to go just in case and to see Wynn's band.

We got there, went inside to check out the band but they weren't Spoonful James- too young. I asked the bartender but he had no idea. Went outside and saw a young country singer but not Wynn After heading back inside and no luck again my friend asked if i was ready to leave. I said yea but let me check one more time outside. As I was walking back to see, I looke ahead and about 4 feet in front of me was none other than Taylor talking to a few people. He had his back to me but I could recognize him anywhere even with a cap on. I said "That's Taylor Hicks right there" and my friend was amazed We kept walking by as Taylor was talking My friens said Taylor cut his eyes toward us as he heard me say his name probably because he was going pretty incognito It really was amazing- no one was bothering him It looked like the ones talking to were people he knew My friend and I stood a few feet away just waiting to see if he was going into the band area to perform as we waited chewysmom and her husband showed up and we began talking she had not even noticed Taylor on her way in We sat there debating if there was a way to find out if he was going to perform Taylor headed up to the upstairs gameroom section with Bill Will so we figured maybe he was just going to hang out We decided to go back inside one last time and lo and behold Wynn's group was performing and announcing that a special guest was coming up. Taylor came out and sang three songs and jammed a bit with his harmonica. He really seemed to look around very closely at the crowd perhaps looking for those he knew or perhaps reminiscing where he has been ( who knows?) But he seemed more in touch with this audience I think this was really coming home. He didn't disappoint and Wynn and him kept laughing He introduced the band and apparently introduced one as the wrong name and Wynn thought that was hilarious (perhaps Taylor's lyrics disablity carries over to names) . Theother think that was funny was someone handed Wynn a lobster ( areal one ) while he was playing he just passed on on to somebody else
We had pretty good spots but some of the younger people began moving in. But we got chewy'smom up there with her video and she shot 9 minutes worth but with a lot of jostling by those younger girls up front. Some girl was trying to get to the front to flash Taylor but was unsuccessful.

It was amazing and Taylor was so happy After that set Wynn was packing up so we figured they were through We had a ways to drive so we went to the parking lot and there next to my car was Taylor's bus. My only thought was how weird it must be when just a few years ago he was in there performing to a few people and that country star who had the big tour bus showed up and played to a big crowd and then invited Taylor and his band back to his tour bus and Taylor being in awe One had to wonder if he was thinking any of these thoughts.

Unfortunately we left and apparently Taylor played a couple of more sets Needless to say I was sick when I heard but I guess I should look at it as a glass half full since at least I got to experience Taylor live in the Florabama
This is my second Alabama concert and believe you me it is better the second time around.

Taylor loves his home state crowd and the love returned was very real from the close to 7000 crowd.

You might have heard his songs from the radio or CD but these are nothing compared to the experience of watching him perform live.

It is very clear that when the music gets to him, he F-E-E-L-S the music and the rhythm and performs as if the music really possesses him.

This can be seen by the highlight performance of the night --- his version of the song originally written for the great Ray Charles -- THE RIGHT PLACE. This *IS* Taylor Hicks as we voted for him when he was at American Idol -- passion, connection, feeling all in one song.

It's a pity that they released two other songs ( both of which he covered in this concert -- JUST TO FEEL THAT WAY and HEAVEN KNOWS ) as his singles instead of THE RIGHT PLACE because the later could potentially become an inspirational standard which can be played for years to come, on par with such often played songs as -- LEAN ON ME or HE AIN'T HEAVY HE's MY BROTHER.

Anyway, Taylor has gotten better in every concert and if he ever comes back home, me and my friends will surely be there to see him once again.

Go watch Taylor Hicks if he comes to your neck of the woods - -clearly one of the best live concerts today.
This was my third concert, and the best. It is so much fun listening to Taylor's wonderful music, and just to see how happy he is doing this. Everyone else has covered the details, but if you get a chance, go see this man. He loves music, and makes you love it, too.
