Here's the equation: Taylor Hicks + Dothan, AL + Wynn Christian (of Spoonful James) + The Taylor Hicks' Band + Badge, Compared to What, Taylor's originals, and some songs from his 3rd CD = an amazing concert!

What a performer! Taylor, Wynn, and the Taylor Hicks Band had a scorching night of hot music.
When I first got there, the opening band was playing. It seemed as though the crowd was getting restless, But just as soon as Taylor Came out it was awsome! I'm sure it was hard for Taylor becuase there were alot of "people that needed to be at home by that time" and they wouldnt get going for him. However, I sure showed my love for him by screaming "I love you Taylor" a few times. I think that afer the show while waiting for Taylor to come to his bus was a little long but thats how it goes. I love Taylor, and I think had the crowd been a little more enthused, it would have been better.

Excellent concert - Spoonful James together again? Sweeet! Hicks and Co. rocked the house, as usual. Great music, great fun - blasts from the past coupled with newer material made for a wonderful night!
Excellent Concert! Taylor is a amazing performer, and he was rocked the house in Alabama! Fun to see Taylor and Spoonful James (Wynn Christian) together in concert. How great to see that Taylor does not forget the friends that were with him on this journey. Those that love Taylor and know his history can appreciate what this concert meant to him. I loved it!
FANTASTIC CONCERT, THAT'S THE SUMMARY.

Here are some details...

Spoonful James came out smoking. They played for 45 minutes. The crowd was into the music-but they didn't stand and dance-and I wondered if this was a sign for later when Tay came on. I told my companion, Jazzy to keep her camera ready-I knew Tay would come out and jam with his buddies-and I was right. Right on time he emerged from stage right-crouched over peeking through the curtain and sneaking out-grinning and smirking at the crowd-which began screaming loudly!!

He was looking thin but gorgeous as ever! Jazzy and I were some of the first ones down front to take pics despite the people down there who seemed to resent our presence. Now for a very personal and special moment--read on...

Standing there on the floor to Taylor's right I noticed that the pic takers had moved away and I was alone.

We all know that when a moment arrives with Taylor we better take it because it may never happen again-and I took this chance to spring my special surprise on him-one that was very personal and emotional-but one that would hopefully give some love back to him.

You see-my deceased father had the performance bug in him-but due to alcoholism and asthmatic lungs he never pursued it-and at one time played a pretty mean harmonica. When he died I got the harp-and now tonight I had it with me-so I pulled it out of my pocket-and with my eyes glued squarely on the Soul Man I began blowing my harp and jamming with him and SJ-thus fulfilling my father's dream to play harp and make people happy. It didn't matter that my harp and the key they were playing in was different-I was giving back to Taylor and honoring my father all at once-then suddenly the connection was made!! TAYLOR SAW ME PLAYING AND SWAYING-TURNED TO ME AND GAVE ME THUMBS UP!~then laughed and turned away still jamming! Just like at Laser's Edge on March 10 when his eyes met mine-tonight our souls met and connected through music-a great feeling! Jazzy got a pic of this-and its in the first series of pics from Dothan.

After the intermission it was Taylor's turn to smoke-and he did-coming out with "Gonna Move"-well I won't go through the setlist because you guys had a cellcert-right? Let me add my observations here. There was ONE section that stood and grooved-the others were into the music and screamed and wooed-but they didn't stand up! Taylor stayed funky all night and didn't do any slow songs because he was working it trying
to get these folks on their feet. At one point-I don't know how your cellcert reception was or if you were able to understand this-but in rhythm he looked at Loren and sang"Its not working Its not working" over and over-because it seemed like the more he tried the more frustrating it was to get the crowd on their feet.

There were only three tags all night because as I said Taylor was TRYING and TRYING to find some way to get these folks up. On C2W he finally got the center section up-at the end-Brian's sax solo was hotter in person than it sounded on cellcert-and Taylor REALLY pulled out the dance moves here-when he went down low into the bird stance and had the band hold the notes for a long time-at front center stage as close to the edge as he could get without falling off-THEN they jumped up and screamed and whooped-and Taylor grinned so big it covered the whole state of Alabama!

Finally he had succeeded-but it was short lived-THEY SAT BACK DOWN--What's wrong with these folks?

You heard him on Runaround finally TELLING the audience to come to the stage and dance-and THAT's when he got the audience going-but even then it was a small group-but they were loud-and that's when Jazzy and I got a lot of the pics on the concert footage of Taylor dancing-when the security people FINALLY let us go down to the stage!! Taylor also ran the length of the stage high fiving the crowd-gave a harmonica away-did the usual woos and Soul Patrol shout outs-and left-but came back quickly for the encore as you heard-I guess he didn't want to lose the groove-and I don't have to tell you how funky Badge was-that was my second time hearing it live-and it was as good and loud and jamming as you heard!!

More surprises awaited us at the buses-where we talked with Loren, Brian and Boogie and told them about the gift bag full of tshirts-Brian especially was grateful-"We run out of tshirts all the time". Another big change was at the line to meet Taylor-security told us to form 4 straight lines with space in the middle and stand there talking-otherwise Taylor would not come out--I guess after HOB NOLA some changes had to be made-quite understandably!! After about 45 minutes Taylor did come out-he had changed to a light brown solid plain tshirt and black cap with "Soul" on it. We were allowed 1 item to be signed-and Jazzy chose our Boutwell tshirts. Since Taylor did not acknowledge her surprise while we were down front for Runaround-and we were close enough for him to see it-I took this pic of Tay autographing her shirt. She gave her surprise-a specially made poster "Thanks 4 The Memories Taylor" with pics of all our visits together-to Steven to give to Taylor. Once the line started moving the whole bus thing took about 15 or 20 minutes-and Taylor did not speak to us-just signed the shirts and we went to the car.

As we started driving away I kept looking back at the buses and Taylor waving goodbye-and I teared up a little. It was like he was waving goodbye to us too-and we both whispered "Bye Taylor--we love ya" then left the area for the two hour trip home.

It was a great and emotional night with a good concert and special memories for us both-to add to the ones we already have that will carry us through the creative hibernation until the Soul Man is ready to come our way again-and you can be assured that Jazzy and I will be waiting to hear the call--"Soul Patrol Soul Patrol Soul Patrol!!"
